Monotype Prints for Teens @SMB Winter Session 1

November 22nd – Tuesday 7:00pm-9:00 pm – 4 week workshop
Students will go beyond their drawing and painting skills and create unique one-of-a-kind prints. Explore layering color, painterly brushwork, collage and imprinting through methods of printmaking. The beauty of this medium is in its spontaneity and the combination of techniques and mediums. All materials are included and prints will be hand pulled.

Monotype Prints for Kids Age 6-12 @SMB Winter Session 1

December 2nd – Friday 4:00pm-6:00pm – 4 week workshop
Students will learn a fresh way to draw and paint! Using new artist tools, materials and printmaking techniques, they will learn to make unique one-of-a-kind prints! Applying process-orientated methods of imprinting and transferring of paints from a printing plate to paper they will discover an instinctive and exciting way to make art.
All materials are included and prints will be hand pulled.

Contemporary Artists: Outside the Circle @ArtLab Fall ’11

September 28th – Wed 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM (10 week course)
Learn about contemporary art.  Students will learn to investigate works while creating a project of their own based upon that artist’s work.  Mixed media, paint, collage, drawing and printmaking techniques will be used.  This class will explore contemporary artists that students might not be familiar with: Eva Hesse, Kiki Smith, William Kentridge, Viola Frey and Robert Motherwell.

Art Crit Group @ArtLab Fall ’11

September 27th – Tues 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM – 10 week course
For artists working on a body of work, and would like to focus a discussion around their ideas. Artists needing help to move forward with their ideas or push their work in a new direction. Also will discuss current shows in the NYC area as well as newspaper and magazine reviews.

October 5th, 12th & 19th  – Wed 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM – 3 week workshop
Learn to create unique one-of-a-kind prints using drawing, painting and collage. Effects range from the beauty of watercolor washes to the excitement of prints. Explore multiple plate printing, layering color, brushwork, imprinting and embossing. Easy and non-intimidating for the beginner and challenging for the advanced artist. We will learn to pull prints by hand as well as with the aid of a press.  Materials supplied.

Etching for Beginners @ArtLab Fall ’11

November 28th, December 5th, 12th & 19th –  Mon. 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM – 4 week workshop
Beginning Etching is for any artist of any skill level that wants to expand their knowledge of intaglio processes and take their work in a new direction. This class focuses on creating intaglio prints from copper plates.  It will cover basic etching techniques including: hard ground, soft ground and dry point, all aspects of plate preparation, plate making, selection of printing papers and inks. Students will also learn how to make editions of prints, and take care of finished prints.  Focus on beginners but all levels of experience welcome
